Protection of the Lord’s Prayer in Ontario Legislature
June 12, 2008

Members of the Provincial Legislature in Ontario voted on June 12, 2008 to keep the Lord’s Prayer as part of a new rotation in their daily opening procedures. The new format, built on the recommendation of an all-party committee, would keep the traditional prayer and add other prayers in a rotation. The Motion defined those other prayers as: “The presentation of a verse or passage, a call for a moment of silent reflection, or any such similar activity which, in the opinion of the Speaker, will serve to reflect over time the general demographic composition of this chamber and of the province of Ontario.”

This recommendation came about because of the overwhelming response from people in Ontario who were concerned that the Lord’s Prayer would be discarded.

In all, Ontario MPPs received more than 7,000 emails and 23,000 petition signatures.
Canadians for Moral Clarity would like to thank you for your action on this issue. Your willingness to speak up on this important decision has made a real difference in Ontario.
