On behalf of our President and Board of Directors we would like to communicate a few situations that are facing our nation right now and possibilities for action in speaking to them.

We have many opportunities in the next few weeks to champion life in Canada, with some challenging Bills and some exciting Motions before the House of Commons.

Motions of Interest:

M-388

This motion, presented by Conservative MP Harold Albrecht, speaks to Internet suicide predators and seeks to clarify the criminal code, so that it is considered a criminal offence in Canada to counsel or aid in an attempt of suicide, even over the Internet. This motion has wide support in the House and is scheduled to be voted-on Wednesday, November 18. Please contact your MP and let them know that you support this motion.

This motion, presented by Conservative MP Jeff Watson recommends that the Government examine current federal support measures available for adoptive parents, study the supports available to adoptive parents, to explore the challenges of adoptive parents. This motion has experienced wide support and will go to the third hour of debate on November 30. This is an amazing opportunity to see the profile of adoption raised in Canada. This Bill, put forward by Bloc MP Francine Lalonde, deals with the legalization of euthanasia in Canada and specifically with a persons ‘right’ to die with dignity. There are no limits on this bill and if it becomes law, assisted suicide would be legal in almost any situation. It will be debated on December 1 st and voted on-December 2 nd.Please take the time to contact your MP and let him/her know how you feel about euthanasia and end of life care in Canada.
